Expansion of Local Rental Laws
Online Only
Event Details
Up until recently, Washington’s Residential Landlord Tenant Act was fairly straightforward and governed landlord-tenant law throughout the entire state, with Seattle being the only major outlier. Now over the last decade, many local governments have crafted new laws which have spread to other cities and then up to the state level. Many of these newer laws include mechanisms for direct enforcement through fines and penalties, whereas they were only enforced through civil lawsuits in the past. RHAWA’s legal counsel Chris Benis will explore these trends and review recently adopted laws in Bellingham, Spokane, Woodinville, and more.
