New Washington State law requires that prior to any eviction based on nonpayment of rent, the landlord and tenant must attempt to resolve the issue by participating in the Eviction Resolution Pilot Program administered through local area Dispute Resolution Centers. The plan for this new program is that Eviction Resolution Specialists will work with housing providers and tenants to discuss the rent arrears and circumstances of the tenant, the availability of assistance funds, and explore other terms that might resolve the matter without the need for filing of an unlawful detainer action. Attorney, Maxwell Glasson will explain the new process and provide best practices for resolving tenant debt under the new laws.
